"Puppeteer" is the first part of a series that I painted inspired by the landscape in New Mexico. It's power is almost tangible and there is a history there that perhaps only the American Indians and the creatures that roam this land know of. The strings coming down from the crying clouds are connected to the next painting in the series...and together they tell a message. As powerful as this landscape is, it is unfortunately, being encroached upon by civilization. The telltale sign of telephone poles is an intrusive element in this wild landscape. My painting illustrates the idea that these telephone poles are tethering this power, and slowly taming it, little by little. But nature is all-powerful, and the telephone pole is not the most stable. It slants at an angle, signifying that one day, nature will topple what is presently holding it down.
